Basic Rights Oregon offers free workshop

PENDLETON — A training sponsored by Basic Rights Oregon will provide a deeper understanding of transgender identities.

The state’s largest LGBTQ advocacy group, Basic Rights Oregon stresses the importance for friends, family and community leaders to become effective allies — especially as the political climate in the United States grows increasingly hostile for transgender individuals. “Putting the T in Equality” is Sunday from 2-4:30 p.m. at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St. There is no admission charge.

Topics being explored include gender concepts and pronoun use, barriers currently facing transgender Oregonians and non-discrimination laws that provide protection. Participants are invited to learn together by asking questions.
