HERMISTON — Aspiring photographers and filmmakers can participate in upcoming classes offered through Hermiston Parks & Recreation.

Open to ages 9-16, Film Kids includes working with DSLR cameras and shooting collaborative short films with classmates. Participants will gain knowledge in scriptwriting, storyboarding, proper lightning, sound operation and editing. The class meets four Tuesdays from 6:15-7:15 p.m.

Kids ages 5-8 are invited to register for Mini Filmmakers. Participants will work with camcorders and will learn how to operate the camera, monitor sound and piece together short films with storyboarding. It provides an opportunity for young kids to explore their imagination and bring it to life through visual storytelling. The class meets four Thursdays from 4:15-5:15 p.m.

Separate sessions are available in May, June, July and August. Also, the sessions take place at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395. The cost of each 4-week session is $50 for Hermiston residents or $63 for non-residents. All equipment used in the classes will be provided.

A 10 percent discount is available for those that register for all four months at the same time. The registration deadlines are April 25, May 30, June 27 and July 25.
