Wal-Mart employees crowded the company’s Pendleton store Friday to celebrate the completion of a major remodel. But the benefactors were local charities.

The remodel took 12 weeks and includes better store flow, an updated electronics department and a new fabrics department. Store manager Shawna Nuff said she was keen to have a fabric table back in the store.

Local charities also were part of the reopening. Nuff presented the following donations:

$500 to Dream Catcher Therapeutics;

$1,000 to Domestic Violence Services;

$2,000 to Relay for Life;

and $2,183 to the Children’s Rodeo.

The store’s celebration continues Saturday with a party for customers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with music, free samples and customer giveaways and activities for children.
