HEPPNER — The Morrow County District Attorney’s Office plans to use child hearsay in the prosecution of sex crimes defendant Corey Scott Baker of Ione.

Baker, 40, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree rape and sexual abuse. The state alleged he raped and molested a girl younger than 12 in 2016.

Richard Tovey, deputy district attorney, notified the circuit court on Thursday the prosecution intends to use hearsay from a child in the case “regarding the acts of abuse by defendant.”

The production of medical records also could be a matter in the case.

Defense attorney Nicolas Patterson filed a motion on Oct. 20 for medical records from Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston, of the girl who accused Baker of the crimes. Tovey has not opposed the motion. The court will consider the request at a hearing on Nov. 30, unless the defense obtains the materials before then.

The court schedule shows Baker has a trial readiness hearing on Jan. 11.
