BOARDMAN — Riverside hosted Umatilla for a doubleheader Thursday night, and with it the girls brushed off their two most recent losses for their first victory two weeks.

Junior Alondra Caldera led the 58-18 win over the Vikings (3-19 overall, 0-8 Eastern Oregon League) with a game-high 15 points.

The Pirates (14-8, 2-6) jumped to a 30-12 lead in the first half after holding Umatilla to only three points in the first quarter.

After the break, the Vikings continued to struggle and scored only one point in the third while Riverside knocked down 17.

Caldera and junior Faith Rosen helped out on defense with seven steals apiece. Caldera also led in rebounds, grabbing six boards on the night.

For Umatilla, junior Lauryn Journot led with five points.

The boys followed and had some technical difficulties that extended halftime to 25 minutes. After the unusually long break, the Pirates were held to zero points as Umatilla went on to secure a 47-32 win.

In the first half, the first place Vikings (19-5 overall, 7-2 EOL) were tested. Both teams opened with 16 points in the first quarter and then Pirates (9-14, 1-8) outscored Umatilla 7-6 to take the one-point lead at the break.

It was the 10-0 third quarter from the Vikings that put them ahead for good.

Junior Sebastian Garcia was there top scorer with 20 points.

For Riverside, senior Felix Aparicio notched a team-high 12 points.

The win sets up the de facto league title game for Umatilla on Saturday. A win over Burns clinches the EOL regular-season title, while a loss hands it to either Burns or Irrigon.
