COOS BAY — After hitting a buzzer-beater to punch their ticket to the Class 3A state tournament, the Irrigon Knights made the six-plus hour trip southwest to Coos Bay. Their first opponent would be the No. 1 seeded De La Salle Knights.

In the opening quarter, Irrigon held its own against De La Salle and trailed by only three points, 14-11, but the home Knights showed why they were the top team entering the 3A playoffs.

De La Salle outscored Irrigon 29-8 over the next two quarters to cement its 63-26 victory.

Irrigon shot only 24 percent from the field, while De La Salle knocked down 48 percent of its shots. Johnny Phillips finished with a team-best six points.

De La Salle’s Emmanuel Reiley notched 19 points.

Its press caused Irrigon some trouble, as the away Knights committed twice as many turnovers (24) as the home Knights (16).

Now, Irrigon will play in the consolation bracket against No. 5 Horizon Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
