Tyasin Burns ran for 215 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns to help his Pilot Rock Rockets football team to a 24-12 season-opening win over the Enterprise Outlaws on Friday night in Pilot Rock.

The game between the Rockets (1-0) and Outlaws (0-1) was scoreless at the half, but Pilot Rock coach Mike Baleztena said that his defense produced three key turnovers that helped spark the offense. Other than Burns, Rockets fullback Ian Gambill found the end zone once and rushed for 49 yards on 13 carries and Logan Weinke ran for 58 yards on seven carries while throwing for 55 more yards as well.

Christian Haskell led the Rockets defense with two sacks and a forced fumble.

CENTRAL LINN 24, WESTON-MCEWEN 8 — At Athena, mental mistakes on offense and missed assignments late in the second half on defense turned a possible win into a disappointing loss for the Weston-McEwen TigerScots as Central Linn pulled ahead for a 24-8 victory.

Central Linn led 3-0 at halftime and a score out of the break gave them a 10-0 lead. The TigerScots (0-1) got back in the game with a long touchdown pass over the top from Kellen McGill to a wide-open Lebraun Albert on a perfect play-action call to make it a 10-8 game.

“This team has a lot of fight in them,” TigerScots coach Travis Glover said. “Take away those mental mistakes tonight and I think we get a win out of this.”

RAINIER 58, UMATILLA 6 — At Umatilla, the Vikings had a tough opener with one of the top five teams in the state as Rainier left town with a 58-6 victory.

“They just went ground and pound against us,” Umatilla coach Dan Durfey said.

Andrew Earl led the Vikings (0-1) offense going 8 for 18 passing with 138 yards and one touchdown, which came on a five-yard pass to Ryan Lorence. Ramiro Alverez was Umatilla’s leading rusher with 52 yards on four carries, while Izayah Rodarte added 45 yards on five carries.

CLATSKANIE 46, HEPPNER 0 — At Clatskanie, the Heppner Mustangs were shut out in their season opener for the second straight time, losing 46-0 to the Class 3A Clatskanie Tigers on Friday night.

The Mustangs (0-1) had only 108 yards of total offense in the game, with Jayden Wilson throwing for 64 yards on 7 of 13 passes and Mason Lehman leading the team with 24 rushing yards on six carries.

Clatskanie (1-0) compiled 357 yards — 221 through the air and 136 on the ground. The Tigers scored on six of their nine possessions.
