Former Pendleton resident John R. Segerstrom, 74, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, in Austin, Texas, with his family around him.
Segerstrom was born October 9, 1942, in Sonora, California, to Jean and Richard Segerstrom. He married Barbara (Nelson) Segerstrom in 1964.
He graduated from San Jose State University and Harvard Business School. Segerstrom was the president and founder of the Pendleton Banking Company. He also served as president of the Oregon Banker’s Association. After moving to Lake Oswego in 1983, he went on to develop software to help small banks manage their financial risk. After Barbara’s death in 2007, he retired to Austin, Texas.
He loved humor, music, and dancing and sang and played guitar his entire life. While living in Pendleton, he volunteered annually with the Round-Up, an event he enjoyed returning to for many years.
Segerstrom is survived by his daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Jai Giffin of Lexington, Kentucky; son Eric and daughter-in-law Suzette of Austin, Texas; granddaughter Lucy of Austin, Texas; and brother Kris of Sacramento, California.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Richard and Jean, and brother Karl.
