Dale Schmidt was born at home in Burt, Iowa, on Aug. 4, 1937, to Alfred and Lena Schmidt and welcomed by his sisters Darlene and Wilma and his brother, Donald.
Dale was No. 4 of nine children. Those who came after were sisters Anita, Shirley and Beverly, and brothers Dennis and Allen.
They were raised on the family farm in Corwith, Iowa. As a young man, Dale moved to Victorville, California, where he worked 28 years for Pfizer (cement plant). After retirement, he made his way to Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He lived there for a few years and eventually settled in Athena, Oregon, where he remained until his death on Oct. 9, 2017.
Dale liked to hunt, watch his favorite football, baseball and basketball teams on TV, and he loved his church family. He was very much a people person. Family and friends were very important to him!
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. Dale is survived by sisters Wilma Chigas of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, Anita Minton of Ventura, California, and Beverly Hammit of Ozark, Missouri, and brother Dennis Schmidt of Newport, Washington.
Memorial services will be Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Athena Christian Church in Athena, Oregon. Inurnment will be in the Athena Cemetery.
