Phyllis Jean (Clark) Ritz, 88, of Pendleton passed away in the loving company of her family on January 27, 2018. She was born on June 18, 1929, to James and Louise (Rohman) Clark in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In her early years she remembered ice skating on the creek near her childhood home. She graduated from St. Roch’s Catholic High School in 1947.
In 1951, after the passing of her mother, Phyllis and her father along with her younger brother, moved to San Diego, where her sisters lived. She was active with the Catholic Youth Organization where she met her husband, Frank Ritz. They were married in San Diego on June 14, 1952. They welcomed five children.
Phyllis stayed active with the church, being involved with Catholic Daughters, Alter Society and the Flower Guild. She was a devout Christian who loved Jesus and was grateful for her long full life. In her spare time she could be found playing Bunco with anyone interested in a game or crafts such as needlepoint, quilting and crochet.
Phyllis retired after many years working for the San Diego City Schools as a special education tutor. She often tutored neighbor children after school in her home while preparing the evening meal. Phyllis loved to watch sports and often mentioned that baseball was her favorite. She enjoyed going to the baseball stadium with her family.
She is predeceased by her siblings Jim Clark, Pauline Henrick and Irene Severaid.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Frank Ritz of Pendleton; children Steven (Rose) Ritz of San Diego, California, David (Kathy) Ritz of St. Louis, Missouri, Liza (Daniel) Gomez of Wildomar, California, Joseph (Cherie) Ritz of Silverton, Oregon, and Cynthia (Gabriel) Moran of Pendleton, Oregon; 10 grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, February 8 , 2018, at 5 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, February 9 , 2018, at 10 a.m.
Contributions in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in the care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.
