A package thief struck in Irrigon, roadside help turned into a call for police, and a county official crashed

9:26 a.m. - A woman in Boardman reported her husband threatened to kill her. Local law enforcement and crisis workers responded.

9:49 a.m. - An Irrigon resident at Oregon Trail RV Park on Northeast Washington Avenue reported the theft of the packaged she ordered. She said it was too heavy for her to lift, and before she could bring it in the house, someone in a small pickup took it.

9:39 p.m. - Milton-Freewater police received a report of an intoxicated man punching the side of a car on the 100 block of Raspberry Loop.


1:35 a.m. - Hermiston police received a 911 report of a man in distress and armed with two guns in a white Ford pickup at a site on East Main Street.

9:36 a.m. - A caller on South F Street, Lexington, reported a dog bit a man and broke through the skin.

9:58 a.m. - Umatilla police responded to a 911 report of domestic violence at Tri-Harbor Apartments, 210 Klickitat St.

10:38 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Irrigon of a dog biting people at Northeast Oregon Avenue and Ninth Street. The sheriff’s office issued a warning.

10:46 a.m. - The caretaker of a property on West Quince Avenue, Hermiston, stole a washer, dryer and maybe more, according to the property owner.

11:25 a.m. - A man told Hermiston police someone stole an AR-15 rifle and Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun from his vehicle. He said the theft occurred Oct. 22.

3:38 p.m. - A caller reported the theft of a chain saw from a shed on the 700 block of Northeast Sixth Court, Milton-Freewater.

8 p.m. - Stopping to help someone on the side of the road turned into a call to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller reported stopping for a disabled older Dodge pickup at Willow Creek and Blake Ranch roads, Heppner. A man and woman were there, the caller stated, and the man became belligerent and accused the woman of having her hands in the caller’s pockets. The caller also reported being scared the man would hurt the woman.


12:23 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a prowler at the Marigold Hotel, 105 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton.

8:16 a.m. - An ambulance took a man from Irrgion to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston, because he was unable to walk and his scrotum swelled to the size of a basketball.

8:39 a.m. - A caller at Threemile Canyon Farms, 75906 Threemile Road, Boardman, reported the theft of his welding equipment, power tools and hand tools from a construction site.

9:42 p.m. - A caller reported hearing two explosions on Rudder Lane off Minnehaha Road, Hermiston, but did not see fire. Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies did not find a source for the booms.

10:40 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to a noise complaint at South Hill Apartments, 248 S.W. 28th Drive, and issued a warning.


6:17 a.m. - Fire destroyed a Chevrolet on Interstate 84 near milepost 220. The 38-year-old driver from Stanfield was heading east when he saw smoke and pulled over. The Umatilla Tribal Fire Department responded, along with Oregon State Police, which reported the driver was unharmed.



•Boardman police arrested then released Carlo Mendoza Guzman, no age or address provided, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The arrest stemmed from the driver of an 18-wheeler who reported a Mercedes crashed into him at Laurel Lane and Northeast Columbia Avenue, Boardman.


•Hermiston police arrested Kyle L. Decker, 27, of Hermiston, for felony possession of a federally controlled substance and on a warrant.

•Morrow County Planning Director Carla McLane crashed a county vehicle at a rolling road block.

Oregon State Police reported McLane, 56, of Umatilla, was driving a county-owned Dodge Durango at 8:48 a.m. on westbound Interstate 84 near milepost 166 where crews were installing power cables across the road. A helicopter helping install the power lines distracted McLane, according to state police, and the Durango crashed into an unoccupied Acura Integra on the shoulder.

The Acura was part of the roadway control with flashing amber lights, state police reported, and the collision totaled both vehicles. McLane was not injured.

State police cited McLane for careless driving, but the agency also reported the contractor in charge of traffic control failed to restrict westbound traffic, which could lead to more investigation.


•Multiple agencies at about 7:30 a.m. responded to the Maple Crest Apartments, Boardman, for a woman with difficulty breathing. The caller reported she was the victim of an assault.

The Boardman ambulance took the victim to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston, and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Pedro Lopez-Larios, no age provided, for domestic violence assault.

•Umatilla tribal police arrested Lavella Ruth Thompson, 24, of Pendleton, for escape, dangerous drugs, criminal activity in drugs and on a warrant for failure to appear.


•Pendleton police arrested Tyler Warner Jones, 18, of Pendleton, for DUII.

•Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kari Lynn Rytting, 36, of Irrigon, for fourth-degree domestic violence assault, domestic violence menacing, second-degree attempted assault, first-degree trespass and on multiple warrants.
