Police handled littering, welfare check-ups and arrests for drugs and violence

4:59 a.m. - A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy removed a traffic hazard at Bucknum’s, 152 N. Main St., Heppner.

6:30 a.m. - A caller reported someone “going through the garbage” at East Main and Southeast Second streets, Hermiston.

10:54 a.m. - Crossroads Truck Stop, 2020 Highway 730, Umatilla, reported a theft. The case is under investigation.

12:15 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of theft from SmartStyle Salon, 2203 S.W. Court Ave. (inside Walmart).

2:07 p.m. - A caller asked Hermiston police to respond to West Elm Avenue and North First Street to check on an older man sitting on some bags near the Jack in the Box, 1305 N. First St.

3:14 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office took a report for the theft of an air compressor and heat guns from a site on Paterson Ferry Road, Irrigon.

4:49 p.m. - A caller reported littering at Lee Street Grade and Campbell roads, Pendleton, still an all-too-common place for people to dump trash.

10:08 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a disturbance on the first block of Northwest June Avenue.

11:06 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to South Hills Apartments, 248 S.W. 28th Drive, for a domestic disturbance.


12:08 a.m. - Milton-Freewater police and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to North Elizabeth Street on a report of gunshots.



•Hermiston police arrested Ronnie Simone Sampson, 20, of 512 N.W. 12th St., Pendleton, for third-degree theft, second-degree forgery, and identity theft.

•Milton-Freewater police arrested Michael Anthony Pena, 39, of Milton-Freewater, on a warrant and for possession of methamphetamine and the domestic violence crime of second-degree assault.

•Stanfield police arrested Mitchell Adam Swift, 25, of Hermiston, for domestic violence charges of fourth-degree assault and strangulation.


•Pendleton police arrested Robert James Van Pelt, 43, and Delbert Edwin Ferraris, 30, both of 72490 Billy Road, Pendleton, for felony possession of methamphetamine. Van Pelt also faces charges of contempt of court and supplying contraband, and police also arrested Ferraris for carrying concealed weapons and on warrants for failure to appear.
