Car theft in Milton-Freewater, state police investigate a gun purchase, and a Milton-Freewater man faces charges for a gun theft

TUESDAY


6:48 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater man on the 900 block of Cowl Street reported the theft of his 2012 Chevrolet Traverse.

9:52 a.m. - Graffiti vandalism continues in Milton-Freewater. Police this time took a report for graffiti on a building at 210 S.W. Second Ave.

10:10 a.m. - A resident on the 1300 Southwest 13th Place, Hermiston, reported someone took her gas cans that had gas in them.

1:28 p.m. - A caller at Columbia Crest Apartments, 1500 Second St., Umatilla, reported youth were driving recklessly in the nearby marina parking lot.

6:02 p.m. - Oregon State Police responded to the Pendleton Bi-Mart store, 901 S.W. Emigrant Ave., after the state denied the sale of a firearm. The would-be buyer is on probation and left the store before police arrived. The investigation is pending contact with the person.

7:37 p.m. - Pendleton emergency services responded to South Main Street and Southwest Emigrant Avenue on a report of a vehicle hitting a male on a bicycle.

8:29 p.m. - Visitors to the Hermiston disc golf course at Northwest 11th Street and West Elm Avenue reported finding eight bicycles “stashed” throughout the course. Police did not find the bikes.

9:02 p.m. - A caller on Southwest Wyoming Avenue, Irrigon, reported hearing around 10 gunshots nearby and this is the third night she heard the shots. A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy determined the report was unfounded.

9:24 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to a report of drug activity at Stillman Park, 413 S.E. Byers Ave., but officers did not find the activity.


ARRESTS, CITATIONS


•Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cody Lee Farrens, 27, of Milton-Freewater, for first-degree theft, second-degree burglary and menacing. The Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office charged Farrens on Wednesday morning with theft and burglary counts and felon in possession of a firearm.

The state in court documents accused Farrens of entering a home on the 84900 block of Grace Lane, Milton-Freewater, and stealing a Ruger .357 Magnum revolver. The court documents also state Farrens has a 2009 felony conviction in Walla Walla County for theft. Farrens’ next court date is Sept. 18.

•Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Trevor Eli Cooke, 35, of Hermiston, for felony fourth-degree assault.
