In an effort to reach out to the community and help ensure fire safety, members of the Pendleton Lions Club teamed up with the Pendleton Fire Department to install smoke detectors in Riverside Mobile Estates.
The group headed out Oct. 7 with a desire to help protect residents by making sure they had a working smoke detector in their homes. The Lions became interested in the project after a recent house fire in the area.
Pendleton Fire Chief Mike Ciraulo told the Lions that he had never recovered a body from a structure where there were working smoke detectors, said John Taylor of the Lions Club.
In preparation for installing the detectors, which were obtained through the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office and the Pendleton Lions Club, the Lions received training in the correct locations and methods for installation from Ciraulo. During the project, 68 smoke detectors were installed.
