The financial director at Blue Mountain Community College was recently honored by the American Association of Women in Community Colleges.
Yadira Gonzalez received the Community College Excellence Award. The award celebrates individuals whose accomplishments make a difference for women in their local community college. Gonzalez is a founding member of BMCC’s chapter of AAWCC, and is the chapter’s secretary.
Gonzalez, who has worked for BMCC since 2014, was nominated for her passion and commitment to providing service on campus and in the community.
According to a press release, Gonzalez not only serves as an advocate for women but also for the local Hispanic community. She routinely travels to high schools in the college’s district to present financial aid information and answer questions in both English and Spanish to local youths and their families.
“Yadira is a trusted and valuable asset to our AAWCC chapter and our college community,” said Cam Preus, BMCC president. “She truly cares about our students and providing access to information so that everyone can pursue their higher education goals.”
