2017 Giving Tree thanks community

What is it about the holiday season that brings out the best in people?

For the most part, people simply chalk it up to the spirit of the season. Whatever it is, nowhere is it manifested any more than the Giving Tree Program.

In operation for 18 years, the Giving Tree is solely operated by a handful of volunteers and yet roughly 500 children benefit.

How can this happen? It happens because many giving citizens in the east end of Umatilla County along with Hamleys, Elkhorn Media Group, Oregon Department of Human Services, Umatilla County Youth Services, Umatilla County CARE, McKay Elementary, Washington Elementary, Sherwood Elementary schools and the Pendleton Early Learning Center make it a successful project in Pendleton.

Certainly it is a reminder of the values that make our area such a wonderful place in which to live and work. As we consider our blessings during the New Year, let’s remember that being able to enjoy the kind of friends and neighbors we have in this area should be somewhere near the top of our lists.

Thank you so much from the 2017 Giving Tree committee,

Melvalee Carter, Lisa Roberts, Anne Sokoloski, Corrina Robinson, Patti Thorne, Heidi Ziegler, Julie Thompson and Jenni Galloway
