Gingrich plans visit to Tri-Cities this week

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich will have a campaign rally at the Red Lion Columbia Center on Thursday, his campaign told the Tri-City Herald today. Gingrich will appear at 11 a.m. before traveling to Spokane for an event later in the day.

Canadian fiddler brings variety to Pendleton strings students

The slight frame of Canadian fiddler April Verch stood Monday in front of 20 high school students brandishing violins, violas, mandolins, guitars, cellos and a lone bass. Beneath her dark bangs and thick glasses, Verch’s eyes shone as she listened to the Pendleton High School orchestra play a song she composed.

Zailynn continues fight

At this moment, Zailynn Mitchell is likely recovering from her second liver transplant in less than a year. The 15-year-old Hermiston girl received notice Monday around 1 p.m. that a liver was available. Surgery was scheduled for late Monday night or early this morning at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, located in Palo Alto, Calif., said Mark Mitchell, the girl’s father.
