Pendleton Lions Club and St. Mary’s Outreach would like to thank all of the generous people in our community who donated to our food drive last Saturday, February 18th. It was a fantastic success. We collected 2,002 pounds of items and $566 in donations. That is around 500 pounds and $66 more than was donated last November.
My request for someone to step up and run against Bill Hansell is going to happen. And a better person than Maryl I could not have asked for.
When my wife, Andrea, and I read Jane Hill was running for Pendleton City Council, we were very pleased. I have worked with Jane on projects in our community over the past few years. She is smart, hardworking and has the ability to bring together a diverse group of people.
We are excited to endorse Jane Hill for city council and hope you will join us in voting for her. Jane has demonstrated her commitment to Pendleton in numerous ways and her interest in serving as part of our city council is further evidence of that commitment. Here are a few things to consider as you make your decision:
The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners conducted a hearing on Feb. 13, 2012, regarding an application submitted by the WKN Chopin LLC to construct 12 miles of transmission lines from the Lower Dry Creek area to Lincton Mountain. This hearing resulted in a unanimous decision to sustain the Umatilla County Planning Commission decision to deny the application as presented.
Citizens of Weston, the need to get involved with city government is urgent due to the recent events. A recall was rejected in 2011, a vacant council position was filled without interviews from the five applicants, then the city recorder/budget officer was terminated. Citizens that regulary attend council meetings and yearly budget review meetings can assure others that there is concern for the city.
I so enjoyed reading Kathy Aney’s well-written article on Becky Taylor’s story with its wonderful outcome. It’s good to be reminded of how fortunate we are to have people like therapist Paul Podlesnik living and working in our town.
An East Oregonian editorial called, “How much do 133 people really matter?” focused on economic development in Pendleton.
The wind industry is a false market — it would not be profitable in the real-world market. It is supported by feds. with little risk by wind developers since they are using tax dollars. It is protected since wind operators get paid even when there is plentiful power from hydro. It is expensive and our energy bills may quadruple.
