The Umatilla-Morrow District of the Oregon Music Teachers’ Association held its annual Ensemble Festival on Thursday, Nov. 11 in Hermiston. Fifty-eight area piano students participated. Adjudicator for the event was Carolyn Mayer of Pendleton. 

The following ensembles were chosen as winners:

Elementary age division: Ashlee Zaugg and Michelle Adams; David Welch and Cassidy Welch; Marin Kennedy and Macy LeGore. Alternates were Juliette Chapman and Isabelle Chapman.

Junior high age division: Andrew Wolotira and John Burcham; Kalli Hubbard and Doria Summerfield; Bethany Van Cleave and Joyce Chen. Alternates were Jacob Liebe and Jordan Liebe.

High school age division: Brendan Flerchinger-Decico and James Jed “JJ” Adams; Jonathan Chen and Daniel Van Cleave; Beau Blake, Justin Blake and Joshua Blake.  Alternates were Whitley Schiller and Sarah Hubbard.

Winning ensembles are eligible to perform at the State Ensemble Festival, which will be held at Linn Benton Community College in Albany Dec. 4-5. All participants at the state event will receive medals.

Teachers represented were Phyllis Peterson of Hermiston and Mariann Adams, Kristen Van Cleave and Myrna Van Cleave, all of Pendleton.
