The Inland Northwest Chorale welcomes spring with “Toward the Unknown Region,” under the direction of R. Lee Friese. The concerts will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 S.W. Sixth Ave., Milton-Freewater, and Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Umatilla High School commons, 1300 Seventh St., Umatilla.

The title work is an early 20th century setting of a Walt Whitman text by R. Vaughn Williams for chorus and keyboard featuring accompanist Myrna Van Cleave. Other selections include an a capella presentation of Psalm 100 with an echo chorus of Denise Thornton, Mary Finney, Phil Hector and Harvey Foreman; American spirituals “Oh Mary, Don’t You Weep” and “There’s a Light A-Comin’”; an a capella rendition of “Sing Me to Heaven” and Vaclav Nelhybel’s “Wondrous Love.”

Admission is free to all Inland Northwest concerts; however, donations are always gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served following each performance.

The chorale consists of 35 volunteer singers from many locations in the Northeast Oregon and southeast Washington area. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at Harris Junior Academy in Pendleton. New singers are always welcome, and no auditions are necessary.
