Construction of a dam that would create Bull Prairie Lake 35 miles south of Heppner is expected this spring. The new recreation area is being developed through cooperation of three government agencies. Trina Hellberg of Irrigon had little time to work on her essay for the United Nations Speak-Off Sunday. She was busy Saturday night helping the Riverside High School girls’ basketball team win a spot in the state tournament starting this week in Pendleton. She was a success in the Speak-Off too, taking first in the contest that brought with it a month’s expense-paid trip to the United Nations this summer. Runners-up in the contest sponsored by the Pendleton Odd Fellows Lodge were Karla May Davison of Ione, second; and Mollie Sue Bothum of Pendleton, third.
