Umatilla county has a new postoffice though at this time it is not in full running order. It is called Pine Grove and it is located 15 miles south of Pilot Rock. Most of those tributary to the new office formerly received their mail through the Pilot Rock office. The new postmaster has written to Postmaster J.T. Brown asking for the loan of supplies to answer his needs until he receives such from the government. However as he signed himself as postmaster without giving his own name and since the local office does not feel called upon to loan supplies to new offices the request has not been granted up to this time. Pine Grove is situated about where the old Willow Springs postoffice was located.

From Japan to Virginia, the responses to Condon’s advertisement for “a few good residents” are rolling into the mailboxes of City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce and the town newspaper. Hoping to attract 10 new families, the Chamber placed ads last month in The Oregonian and the Los Angles Times. By Tuesday, the city had received 140 calls and letters from Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Gillette, Wyo., Manassas, Va., Madison, Wis., Merrimack, N.H., Great Falls, Mont., Miami Beach, Fla., Bennion, Utah, and points in between. Many of the letters came from the Northwest and from towns near Los Angeles.
