A bold daylight burglary exceeding anything of the kind ever perpetrated in this city occurred in the full light of day Sunday afternoon between the hours of 2 o’clock and 4:30. A cash register and a safe were both burglarized, netting the robber $135 for his pains. The Tallman Drug company’s store at the corner of Main and Alta streets in the very heart of the business district was the scene of the burglar’s activity. Someone pried off one of the iron doors protecting a window in the rear of the store. The window was then pried open and an entrance effected. That the fellow was in no hurry is indicated by the fact that he took the till out of the safe and placed it behind the rear partition where he could work at his leisure and not be seen from the street, the safe being in full view.

Pendleton Junior High School had problems with its solar heating system last week, but the district’s buildings and grounds supervisor says he hopes the problems have been overcome. About 20 classrooms and offices in the east half of the building registered temperatures as low as 55 degrees last week and some students, teachers and administrators donned coats. Buildings and grounds supervisor John Chase said the problem was due to a special O-ring that eventually had to be ordered from the East Coast. Chase said that since the O-ring’s replacement “it’s been real warm in the building.”
