Twelve neighborhood kids of Irrigon will not be asking for something to do this summer. Theyve organized a club a 4-H outdoor cooking club. Instigators of the venture are two young mothers Mrs. Richard Ryan and Mrs. R.N. Lesley. Between the two they have eight children, and they faced the summer without an activity for them. Mrs. Ryan, president of the Irrigon Extension Unit, was familiar with Extension services 4-H clubs and inquired about possible summer projects from Esther Kirmis, Morrow County Extension Agent. The outdoor cooking project appealed to the young fry and by the close of school they had 12 boys and girls signed up as members.

Umatilla County commissioners appear to be leaning toward ending the contract with Lifeguard Medical Transport and closing down the service for as long as a year before a new district can be formed and a board of directors elected. Commissioners met for an hour and a half Wednesday with Bill Knight, who runs Lifeguard III, an air ambulance service based in La Grande. Knight implied he may be willing to move his service to Pendleton if Umatilla County voters would continue to support the air ambulance.
