A move on the part of the city officials today to prosecute Rev. Alfred Lockwood, pastor of the Church of the Redeemer for holding church services yesterday morning has evidently been given up owing to discovery by City Attorney Fee of a defect in the ordinance as recently adopted. Services were held at the Episcopal church yesterday morning by Rev. Lockwood and upon learning of the fact C.O Breach, quarantine officer, laid the case before the city attorney. That official started to draw a complaint against the pastor but on investigating the ordinance closely discovered that the new ordinance where it refers to the old health ordinance had the date of the former ordinance incorrectly stated. He therefore has refrained from bringing any action for fear of putting the city to fruitless expense in event the case should be contested.

A 91-year-old man was pulled from his house by a passer-by after being overcome by smoke from a fire in his Hermiston home last Friday. Albert Reeves was suffering from smoke inhalation when he was pulled from his house by Jeff Green of Hermiston, fire crews reported. The fire in the daylight basement of Reeves’ house was apparently started by a wood stove about 8:30 p.m. Green reported he opened the door to the basement area and saw Reeves unconscious on the floor a few feet inside the smoke-filled room. He grabbed Reeves by the arms and pulled him outside, fire crews said. It took fire crews about an hour and a half to extinguish the fire.
