The Model House opened last night by the Junior Chamber of Commerce is a charming place indeed and Pendletonians who viewed it are enthusiastic. It will be open for inspection for eight days. A neutral but effective color scheme has been used, with shades of brown predominating in the livingroom and diningroom. The furniture in general is from McKee’s, and includes early American, modern and Duncan Phyfe and the whole effect is most attractive. The hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily.

Mayor Raymond R. “Whitey” Schroth was beaten by City Councilman William E. Neuffer in Tuesday’s mayoral election by nearly a 2 to 1 margin. Racketeering charges still are pending against Schroth in a civil suit filed by the state attorney general’s office. While Schroth has maintained his innocence, the lawsuit obviously was the main factor in his being ousted after 10 years as councilman and the last four as mayor. “It was impossible to think that I would be returned under the odds that I was working under,” Schroth, 66, said late Tuesday night as the results began flowing in.
