Nov. 20, 1936

City school Superintendent Austin Landreth will go to Portland tomorrow to expedite the delivery of equipment for the junior high school building at the civic center. The junior high school building is fast nearing completion. Under present plans the building should be ready for occupancy January 1. Completion of all work has been delayed a bit upon receipt of an additional PWA grant which specifies the return of several alternates.

Nov. 20, 1961

Supt. Wes Hamilton of Pilot Rock schools announced this morning an agreement had been reached with the Oregon School Activities Association and Yoncalla High School to play the B-11 state championship football game at the Round-Up Stadium at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Hamilton said Pilot Rock, which advanced on superior yardage to the finals after a scoreless tie at Pilot Rock Saturday with Malin, would again be facing a larger team, and one which employs a wing-T and split line formation.

The outgoing mayor of Umatilla, Don Armstrong, has asked the City Council to put a short leash on mayor-elect Allan Lambert when he takes office in January — a request Lambert says in an “embarrassment” for the city. In a letter to the Council, Armstrong told members to closely monitor the activities of Lambert, the 35-year-old motel owner elected mayor Nov. 4. “The mayor-elect has not shown any understanding of the requirements of elected officials nor has he demonstrated a desire or ability to represent the Council to the staff or the city. He has merely shown an interest to pursue a narrow agenda of policies and ideas which serve his own personal needs and desires,” the letter said.
