Interpretations of pictographs in the Rock creek gorge which were recently reported and recorded by Rose Leibbrand, field worker for the Historical Records Survey, WPA writers’ project, may provide another link in the race migration story which is revealed in other Columbia valley pictographs and petroglyphs. Upon receiving a clue to the existence of the pictographs, Miss Leibbrand made the mile and half descent of the rock creek gorge and recorded the pictographs which are located on a cliff near the John Hughes ranch.

When William J.D. Boyd, staff associate of the National Municipal League, New York, today announced the 22 final cities in Look Magazines’ annual all-American selection, the list contained the name of Milton-Freewater, perhaps one of the smallest municipalities ever selected for this distinguished honor. The 22 cities named in the Look-National Municipal League All-America group will send representatives to appear before the All-America Cities jury at the National Conference on Government in Miami Beach. Fla., Nov. 30-Dec. 2 to preset the finalists’ case. The jury will select 11 winners.

A few years ago Hermiston High School’s marching band decided that when it played at halftime it wouldn’t play second fiddle to the football team. Since then, the band has tripled in size — to 150 members — and glide-stepped its way to the front ranks of competitive marching bands in the Northwest. Tonight the band makes its final appearance of the season, an informal show for the general public. It begins at 7:30 p.m. on the football field.
