Volunteers are needed to deliver hot meals to home-bound senior

citizens in the Pendleton area. Volunteers must use their own cars and

mileage is reimbursed. Drivers are needed from 10:30-11:45 a.m.,

Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Pick one day that fits your schedule.

CMEO needs volunteers to spend an hour or two a week to work at the

facility. Duties include helping at the front desk, cleaning up and

helping in the Art Room. Adults and teenagers 14 and older are welcome

to volunteer.

DVS needs volunteers to be crisis line workers. Cell phones are

provided. These volunteers must also have a criminal background check

and undergo 40 hours of free training. The organization also 

needs volunteers to perform yard and maintenance work, clerical and

receptionist duties and to provide transportation.

Foster Grandparent Program

The program needs 20-30 more volunteers in both Pendleton and

Milton-Freewater. Foster Grandparent volunteers help kids with reading

and become their friends. Volunteers earn a completely non-taxable

stipend and mileage and must have a background check and meet income

guidelines. Prior to being placed in local schools, volunteers receive

Heritage Station Museum

Discover a variety of volunteer opportunities at the museum. Work with

the public as a museum or store attendant or be part of the

behind-the-scenes activities preparing exhibits, managing the

historical object collection and archives, conducting research and

Hermiston Senior Center

The center can always use volunteers. They need drivers for the

meals-on-wheels program and the senior bus. The bus is a 14-passenger

vehicle which doesn't require a special license to drive it. It's an

automatic, and is like driving a large pickup. Drivers for meals-on

wheels must use their own vehicle but are reimbursed for mileage. Meals

are serviced Tuesdays and Thursdays, which are the only days volunteers

are required.

The Arts Center needs two to three individuals interested in learning

how to lead 20-minute art projects for kids and families. No previous

teaching experience or art education required. A cheerful disposition

and an interest in working with the public are all that's required.

The mentoring program looking for adult volunteers that can spend up to

one hour a week to become a friend to a fourth through eighth grade

student. If you enjoy the company of young people and would enjoy

making a new friend during the 2007-2008 school year please contact

duties are involved. People are also welcome to become more involved by

joining the PHS Board of Directors, or to serve as secretary to the

SMART is looking for caring adults to read one-on-one with a child in

kindergarten through third grade for one hour a week. Apply online at

are operating at schools in Pendleton, Hermiston, Stanfield, Heppner,

Ione, and Pilot Rock, reaching more than 450 children.

Tonya's House also always has a need for donations of paper towels;

toilet tissue; laundry, dish, dish-washer, and bar soaps, shampoo,

The activity department at this skilled nursing center welcomes

volunteers of all ages for aid with a variety of activities such as

crafts, baking, reading and outdoor activities. Volunteers 16 and older
