HERMISTON - A kickoff celebration and information session for Hermiston Relay For Life will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Hermiston Conference Center, 415 S. Highway 395.

Although the Hermiston relay event isn't until June, planning is beginning for the fundraising effort that raises money for research, celebrates victories over cancer and honors the memory of those lost to the devastating disease.

Also, communities and organizations are encouraged to proclaim Jan. 22 as the "Power of Purple Day" because the color means hope. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to wear and display purple to demonstrate support of in winning the fight against cancer.
