PORTLAND - Warner Pacific College honored Milton-Freewater resident Ruby Mitchell with the A.F. Gray Award during commencement ceremonies May 12 at New Hope Community Church. The award, named in honor of the college's founding president, is given to the graduating senior who best represents a life of Christian integrity, scholarship, and service.

Mitchell, who graduated from McLoughlin High School in 2005, earned an individualized major in cross-cultural ministry from Warner Pacific, after taking full advantage of mission and study abroad opportunities. In 2007, she traveled with a six-member missions team to Myanmar, where she taught leadership development at a conference for youth from the Myanmar Church of God. In 2008, she spent a semester studying the complex cultural and political realities facing the Middle East during a semester abroad in Cairo, Egypt. While there, she also traveled to Israel, Jordan, and Turkey.
