MILTON-FREEWATER - Clergy and church members from the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon, which includes Pendleton and Hermiston, gathered July 11 at St. James Episcopal Church in Milton-Freewater for the ordination of Rebecca Lanham Hendricks.

The Rev. James Waggoner, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane, performed the ceremony because the Eastern Oregon diocese is in the process of finding a new bishop.

Clergy from Eastern Oregon and Washington state participated in the ceremony, which coincided with the Feast Day of St. Benedict.

Hendricks is the executive director of Hospice in Walla Walla. She lives in Milton-Freewater with her husband, Scott. They have two children, Gage and Emily.

G. Lynn Crawford, senior warden for St. James, said Hendricks will be assigned to the Milton-Freewater church and will also assist as a priest in other churches in Eastern Oregon.
