SALEM — People who know civilians or fire service personnel that provide outstanding work in fire prevention or public fire safety education are encouraged to submit their names for an award.

The Office of State Fire Marshal will present a pair of awards during the 2019 Oregon Fire Marshal Conference in May. Jim Walker, Oregon State fire marshal, said there have been many Oregonians who have made significant contributions and encourages the public to inform his office.

The Golden Sparky recognizes a member of fire service and the Silver Sparky goes to a civilian person or group. In 2018, Gretchen Erickson, fire safety educator for Umatilla County Fire District #1, received the Golden Sparky and the Silver Sparky went to the Pendleton Lions Club.

The nomination deadline is Friday, March 15. Submit completed forms, which are available at or by contacting Sally Cravinho at 503-934-8205, or 3565 Trelstad Ave. S.E., Salem, OR 97317.
