ATHENA — A weekend stargazing event will feature the night skies in Eastern Oregon.

David Nemo, president of Rose City Astronomers, will provide insight as he provides information about stars in the sky.

A preparation session begins Friday from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Athena Public Library, 418 E. Main St. Nemo will provide background information and instruction on how telescopes operate. The Star Party is 7:45-11 p.m. at the cemetery, located up the hill on West Sherman Street. Those planning to participate do not have to attend the introductory session.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own telescopes and binoculars, if they have them. In addition, people can bring lawn chairs and blankets. In case of bad weather, the Star party will move to Saturday evening. For more information, call 541-566-2470.
