Auditions for a Milton-Freewater community production of H.M.S. Pinafore, a W.S. Gilbert and A. Sullivan comic operetta, will open to the public 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church, 816 S. Main St.

The production will run for five shows, each beginning at 8 p.m., Feb. 29, March 1, 7 and 8, located at McLoughlin High School's Jack Williams Auditorium. A Sunday matinee is also scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on March 2.

All proceeds will go to paying the remaining debt on the construction of the public library.

"We've built a library here ... and it's a gorgeous new facility," said Nancy Wolfe, director of the production. "And all that's owed is $3,200."

Wolfe is a long-time director and quite the Gilbert and Sullivan expert. She directed community members in a production of "Trial by Jury" two years ago.

"People have been after me to do another one," Wolfe said. "I've already gotten some responses."

For more information, contact Wolfe at 938-5312 or producer Joanna Burke at 938-4216.
