PENDLETON — The Alison Furnish Memorial Scholarship Trustee has awarded three graduating seniors from Pendleton High School with $2,000 scholarships each.

Hannah Schofield, the daughter of Kori and Rich Lani and Travis and Karen Schofield, will attend Blue Mountain Community College majoring in physical therapy.

Zachary Byrd, the son of Keith and Deidre Byrd, will double major in international studies and international business with a minor in German at Whitworth University.

Breanna Mendoza, daughter of Sergio and Norman Mendoza, will attend Western University where she will major in elementary education.

The scholarship began in 1991 in memory of Alison Furnish by her mother, Jessie Forshaw Furnish. Alison was born and raised in Pendleton, graduating from PHS in 1953. She attended Oregon State University and graduated from the University of Oregon Health Sciences School of Nursing. She worked in California for 18 years as a cardiac surgical nurse. She returned to Pendleton in 1979 and worked as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony Hospital until her death in 1986.
