Allan D. and Roma Powell Alder, of Hermiston, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 30. The couple were married in 1957 at the Idaho Falls Temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The couple previously lived in Weiser, Idaho and have lived in Hermiston for the past 38 years.

Roma Alder is a former Head Start teacher and is a teacher in the Women's Organization in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served on a two-year family history mission in Salt Lake City and as matron in the Columbia River Temple. She enjoys doing handiwork, collecting music boxes and playing with her grandchildren. Mr. Alder serves as patriarch in the Hermiston LDS stake. He also served on a two-year mission in Salt Lake City and as Temple President at Columbia Temple. He enjoys working with wood, gardening (especially when it involves tractors) and reading.

A celebration is planned from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the LDS Church, 850 S.W. 11th St.

The couple has seven children: Robert Alder of Hermiston; Michael and his wife Sharon Alder of Hermiston; David and his wife Wendi of Boise, Idaho; Diana and her husband Jed Crowther of Masa, Wash.; Karen and husband Aaron Young of Benton City, Wash.; Eric and his wife Mandy Alder of Hermiston; and Steven Alder of Hermiston. They have 27 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
