Area Veterans Day-related weekend events


USO PARTY, 6-8 p.m., The Arc?building, 215 W. Orchard Ave., Hermiston. The Arc of Umatilla County celebrates its building’s roots as a USO hall. Honor veterans with 1940s Big Band music, dancing, military displays and refreshments. 1940s costumes encouraged. Tickets are $5 at the door. Veterans and active military are free. (541-567-7615).


FREE VETERANS BUFFET, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wildhorse Resort &?Casino Traditions buffet, 73777 Highway 331, Pendleton. Free buffet meal for active and retired military personnel (show military ID or wear military uniform).


VETERANS DAY ACTIVITIES, beginning at 7 a.m., various locations, Milton-Freewater. Breakfast from 7-9 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 424 N.E. Eighth Ave. (veterans eat free, guests by donation); parade at 11 a.m. beginning at Valley Christian Center, N. Main and Eighth Ave. to Ace Hardware (staging begins at 9 a.m.); Chili Feed from noon to 1:30 p.m., Elks Lodge, 611 N. Main St. (veterans eat free, guests $5); Flagpole Ceremony at 2:30 p.m., American Legion Hall. (Jim DeVore 541-429-5073).

VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST, 8 a.m., Hermiston Conference Center, 415 S. Highway 395. All veterans and their families welcome. Free, but RSVP requested by Nov. 8. (541-567-6151).

VETERANS DAY MOVIE MARATHON, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tamastslikt Cultural Institute theatre, 47106 Wildhorse Blvd., Pendleton. Films:“Windtalkers” at 10 a.m.; “Lioness: Women in War” at 1 p.m.; “Arlington Field of Honor” at 3 p.m.; “What Have We Learned Charlie Brown” at 4 p.m.; “Flags of Our Fathers” at 5 p.m.; and “Saving Private Ryan” at 8 p.m. Free admission and free popcorn for everyone, free slice of huckleberry pie or cake for all veterans or active military at Kinship Cafe. Children should be accompanied by an adult. (541-966-9748).

VETERANS DAY COMMEMORATION, 11 a.m., Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop, 131 S.E. Byers Ave., Pendleton. VFW Post 922 will conduct the ceremony. (Clifford Smith 541-566-2438).

VETERANS S.O.S. LUNCH, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Chuckwagon Cafe, 81027 N. Highway 395, Hermiston. All veterans and active duty military receive a free “S.O.S.” lunch with proof of service. (541-567-6329).

VETERANS DAY DINNER, 5:30-7 p.m., National Guard Armory, 900 S.E. Columbia Drive, Hermiston. Meal and door prizes. Free for all current and veteran members of the military and a guest. Sponsored by the Girls Scouts of Oregon and SW Washington Service Unit 22. (Michelle Kane 541-564-5985).


VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY, 9:30 a.m., Stanfield Secondary School gym, 1120 N. Main St. All veterans and those currently serving are invited. Coffee and continental breakfast will be served. (Kirsten Wright 541-449-2225).
