Kurt Echols, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Heidi Tash, of Salem, announce the marriage of their daughter, Kayla Sydney Echols, to Michael Craig Carman, both of Kauai, Hawaii, on Aug. 19, 2007, at the Grand Hyatt in Poipu, Hawaii.

The bride is the granddaughter of Hal and Jeanne Echols, of Hermiston, and spent many summers there with them.

She wore a strapless, off-white gown with a brown sash and carried a bouquet of plumeria and miniature orchids. The bride's sister, Savannah Echols, was the flower girl.

The bride was born at Good Shepherd Medical Center and went to school in Salem, and Alaska. She graduated in 2006 from Chugiak High School in Chugiak, Alaska. She's an activity director for Kauai Vacation Tours.

The groom was born in St. Louis, Mo., and attended school there and in Portland. He earned a culinary degree at Le Cordon Bleu in Portland and is the manager of Kalaheo Cafe in Kauai.

The couple plans to spend the next few years enjoying the island life of Kauai.
