A fiberglass likeness of a balloon that will appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York visited Pendleton earlier this week.
DINO, the corporate symbol for Sinclair Oil, made a pit stop Tuesday at the Southgate Sinclair. The replica apatosaurus weighed in at 75 pounds and is 12 feet long.
One of the largest dinosaurs to have ever walked on Earth, an adult apatosaurus could grow up to 70-90 feet long and weigh as much as 20-36 tons.
DINO first appeared in the Thanksgiving parade in 1963. In 1975, the dinosaur balloon became an honorary member of the Museum of Natural History, said Susan Schoolfield, a public relations specialist for Sinclair.
The 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be televised Thursday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon on NBC.
