Three flags once again fly near the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce office, thanks to some help from the Pendleton Fire Department.

Capt. Mark Moore, along with firefighters Steve Brost and Mark Cave, brought the department's ladder truck - equipped with a 104-foot ladder - to fix the poles earlier this month.

While an American flag always flies in the tallest center pole, the ropes on the two smaller poles broke last fall, leaving them out of commission for the winter and much of the spring.

The Pendleton Lions Club, which manages the flagpole park, had no way to fix the problem. It wasn't until the fire department stepped in that the two other poles were used again.
