Cam Preus, president of Blue Mountain Community College, was awarded the 2013 Howard Cherry Outstanding Advocate Award.

The annual Howard Cherry Awards are granted to individuals who, by their outstanding contributions to the community college cause in Oregon, have brought statewide recognition to community colleges.

“For 13 years Dr. Preus has successfully navigated the often treacherous and always labyrinthine corridors of the State Capitol educating policymakers about the critical mission of Oregon’s community colleges. And she has consistently done so in an effective, diplomatic and professional manner,” the nomination said.

The award is named after the late Dr. Howard Cherry of Portland, who was a lifelong advocate for education and community involvement. He was an Oregon legislator from 1971-1982 and a founding member of the Board of Trustees at Portland Community College.
