Pendleton residents Darlene Babcock, Charles Rosenquist and Eleanor Rosenquist recently enjoyed discussing their Scandinavian roots at a smorgasbord held at Peace Lutheran Church.

"We're the Viking conquest," Eleanor Rosenquist said with a laugh.

Babcock is Norwegian and Charles Rosenquist is Swedish and Danish Eleanor Rosenquist is Scottish and English, but claims Scandinavian roots on the shirttails of her husband, her mother-in-law and her ability to make krumkake, a Scandinavian treat.

"I'm not Swedish at all, but I learned all the traditions from his (her husband's) mother," Eleanor Rosenquist said.

She has visited Sweden five times and has also visited Finland. "Finland was one of the most modern places we've been," she said.
