ATHENA - The Athena Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominees for their Citizen of the Year awards.

Nomination forms are available at city hall, U.S. Bank in Athena, Athena Public Library and the Post Office. The forms need to be returned to City Hall by Dec. 15.

The awards are split into three categories: man, woman and young adult.

For the man or woman citizen of the year category, the chamber is looking for "one who has performed continuous outstanding volunteer community services over a period of years, has a minimum of five years residence with an Athena postal address, is active in more than one phase of community service outside his or her business, profession or vocation, and who contributes recognizable leadership by inspiration and example in community affairs."

For the young adult citizen, the chamber is looking for a Weston-McEwen High School student who lives in the district and demonstrates scholarship and involvement in school, community and church.

Nominations need to be accompanied by a personal letter of recommendation.

The awards will be present at a banquet 6:30 p.m., Jan. 20, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fifth and College Street in Athena.
