ELGIN - Boise Cascade said it's curtailing production at its Elgin stud mill and will lay off about 30 workers.

An official with the wood products manufacturer told The Observer newspaper of La Grande that weak market conditions and subpar projections for housing starts led to the decision.

The mill is curtailing its second shift effective Monday, April 6.

Roughly 100 workers will remain at the mill.
