PENDLETON - About 1,600 Pendleton residents are without power this afternoon, after a red Ford Bronco hit a power pole on Southwest Hailey Avenue. Police radio calls described the vehicle as having "significant" front-end damage.

The accident occurred at 3:28 p.m. Monday, said Pacific Power spokesman Tom Gauntt.

Gauntt said crews were addressing the problem within minutes of the collision. A vehicle accident presents an easier fix than another type of outage where the exact cause isn't known, he added.

"They are working on it, and the good thing about such a thing is that it's a distinct incident at an identifiable place," Gauntt said. "You go to it, and you fix it."

Gauntt estimated crews would have electricity re-routed soon to most of the customers left in the dark by the collision. For others closer to the downed pole, he said he expected the problem to be completely resolved by 6:30 p.m.
