PENDLETON - The Pendleton Development Commission on Tuesday approved the city's urban renewal district budget for 2009-10.

The urban renewal district's operating fund is scaled down almost $1 million from the previous year, but includes several projects designed to continue the "great strides in improving our community over the past few years,"?according to a budget message from City Manager Larry Lehman, also the committee's executive director.

Among the items listed in the budget are $150,000 carried over for facade restoration grants, and $70,000 designated for improvements to the Vert Auditorium. The budget also includes a handful of capital projects totalling $631,000.

The city's urban renewal district stretches along much of the Umatilla River in Pendleton, encompassing the area below the river bordered to the south by Frazer Avenue and Westgate. The district includes the downtown area.

The commission passed the budget by unanimous vote.
