PENDLETON - The Pendleton Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding the Westgate overpass project during its Thursday night meeting.

The council will consider a request for a conditional-use permit to allow the construction of a portion of the project, regarding railroad overpass and bridge construction, within 75 feet of the floodway of the Umatilla River.

Members of the Pendleton Tax Payers Association, which opposed the overpass and argued for an underpass instead, plan to attend the meeting.

The overpass versus underpass issue isn't dead yet, said Val Toronto, a PTPA member and engineer.

Proponents and opponents will be given an opportunity to be heard during the meeting.
