HERMISTON - Remodeling is under way and Community Bank plans moving its downtown branch next month, but not far.

Keith Burghardt, the bank's marketing director, said the bank is is moving its branch operations July 13 from 204 E. Main St. to 109 S.E. Second Ave., the building behind, on the corner of Southeast Second and Hurlburt Avenue. The branch uses it for Saturday banking and drive-in banking during the week. It also has the branch's automatic teller machine and the night deposit vault.

"We have two facilities ... ," Burghardt said. "Over time, it became a challenge for us to have staff in both locations."

The building to be occupied is slightly smaller than the branch office, he added.

Manager Dawn Arnold operates the downtown branch. Community Bank also opened its North Hill branch in 2007 on U.S. Highway 395 North at Theater Lane.

"We have 15 employees in our Hermiston branches," Burghardt said. "We have no plans to cut staff."

Branch employees will offer all bank services available now after the remodel is complete, he said, but he expects the current branch office to have a new tenant.

"We own the building on the corner," he said, referring to the corner of Main and Southeast Second Street. "More than likely, we'll lease it out to another business."
