PENDLETON - The 2003 Wine & Cheese Cotillion took in more than $27,000. After expenses are deducted, the money will be donated to the Pendleton Cancer Clinic.

Approximately 420 people attended the posh evening at the Convention Center. That was down from last year's attendance of more than 600 people.

A silent auction of the table centerpieces raised $1,950. Raffle tickets netted $2,213, and general receipts totaled $23,250, according to Susan Briscoe, one of the chairwomen for the event.

Many local businesses donated centerpieces, cheese, non-alcoholic beverages, merchandise and/or gift certificates for the evening.

Chairwomen Briscoe and Julie Parsons organized the evening, with the help of several committees.

The lobby display, decorated by Melissa Elstad and her committee, contained photos of 65 cancer survivors. The outside entry featured a red carpet bordered with lights and special bread and wine bottle arrangements.

Guests danced to the music provided by AMS entertainment. Local restaurants provided a variety of hors d'oeuvres.

Some of the winners announced at the 10 p.m. drawing for raffle packages included: Joe Talbot of Pendleton, a Blazers sports package valued at $304; Rhonda Lebsock of Pendleton, a Nascar Fanatic package valued at $360; Glenn Foster of Pendleton, A Night for Romance package valued at $195; Gary Larson, a Pendleton spirit package valued at $308; Bob Brown of Pendleton, a package of items for the home valued at $222; Darrin Parsons of Pendleton, a Wildhorse golfer's package valued at $195; Sharon Rowe of Pendleton, a salon package valued at $283; Kerry Peterson of Hermiston, a car care package valued at $247; Tom Smith, a surprise package put together by Hermiston merchants valued at $400; Jenny Galloway of Pendleton, a package including theater and symphony tickets and a one-night out-of-town stay valued at $315; and Rebecca Jensen of Pendleton, a package of Pendleton items valued at $237.
